Any country that overlooks the activities of its leaders with respect to positive and transparent governance is like a leaper who has no sense of his plight. In Nigeria every one cries out for good governance but very few are taking conscious steps towards ensuring that the governing process is successful and legally transparent.
In my own opinion, it is time the youths of this country realizes that the nation will never move forward with only complains and abuses which often time ends In the cyber space (internet). We need to wake up and take the actions to the street. More than 85% of the world countries enjoying people oriented governments today owes its success to the actions of youths.
It is time we check our laws and move for the re-evaluation and assessment of the constitution. The Nigerian constitution is weak and aids corruption tendencies. It is not strong enough to fight for itself talk less of checkmating corrupt leaders and corruption at all levels. All Nigerian youths owe this country a great duty: ensuring that the state called Nigeria is made legally strong to defend itself and the citizenry.
WHAT WE MUST DO AS PATRIOTIC YOUTHS
It is time we advocate for the immediate reduction in the luxurious salaries, bonuses and financial benefits of political office holders. We need to take our protest to the street.
We have to demand for accountability at all levels, the government must make available to us ‘How the nations resources and money is spent’ the freedom of information bill has been signed but we are yet to be informed, this is because the youths have failed to source for the necessary information concerning how we are governed.
We have to keep an eye on corrupt leaders facing corruption charges and ensure those found guilty face the consequences. Note that, most of the penalties for these offences provided by the 1999 constitution are nowhere near punishments that will compel Leaders and political office holders to refrain from corruption. We need to take it to the street: the punishments for corrupt acts should be heavy to really discourage the corrupt acts. These punishments will never be heavy except we as youths take our action to the streets.
All Nigerian Youths must get a copy of the Nigerian constitution; the 1999 constitution is far beyond being recognized as a law book that is capable of protecting the integrity of the nation and compelling political obedience.
I look forward to seeing Nigerian youths step out in the streets to protect against Obnoxious and ill-laws. It begins with you. Fear not, the time is now, we need to build a nation
